Over the past 100 years the standard urban development model of the world’s cities has shifted radically. Prior to the 20th century cities across different cultures and historical settings tended to develop incrementally from the bottom up without a huge degree of central coordination. But things started to change as we entered the age of the automobile and planning regulations that aimed to improve quality became ever-more prescriptive.
